Relaxation Techniques

   Dr. Mc Sweeney provides treatment with relaxation techniques that  allow the mind-body nervous system to self-regulate, promoting  relaxation. The outcome is a lowering of blood pressure, a reduction in pain and other symptoms, and an overall sense of well-being.

  The following are classified as relaxation techniques (colored text indicates clickable links to additional information):

  • Breathing: employing specialized techniques from yoga and other disciplines to slow down the rate of breathing and expand the fullness of the breath, promoting a relaxed state

  • Hypnosis: a state of deep relaxation, either induced by suggestions or self-induced, which eases changes the hypnotized person wants

  • Meditation: a relaxed state with focused concentration

  • Guided imagery: visualization to achieve relaxation and goals

  • Muscle relaxation: a state of mind-body relaxation induced by releasing tension from muscles throughout the body

  • Biofeedback: a relaxed state with awareness of body sensations and indicators of changes in them.
